My name is Katy Mena-Berkley, and I am honored to be a candidate for the Red Bank Commission. I grew up on Signal Mountain and have been proud to call Red Bank my home for the past 11 years. My husband, Joey, works in the construction industry, and together we have a beautiful daughter and two loyal dogs. As a writer, yoga teacher, advocate, and mother, I know the value of truly listening and the power of effective communication.

In the Red Bank Commission meetings leading up to the 52% Red Bank property tax increase of 2023, the skill of compassionate, constructive listening was painfully absent. Instead, I observed public servants who seemed unwilling to find compromise and appeared uninterested in the concern of a large proportion of Red Bank citizens. In the midst of staggering inflation that has crippled many citizens of all ages, abilities, and political preferences, I found this approach unacceptable.
